The Right-Click Synonym Menu

The quickest way to find a synonym in LibreOffice Writer is through the context menu: * Right-click any word in your document. * Hover over the Synonyms option in the pop-up menu. * A sub-menu will display a short list of immediate synonyms. Clicking any of these words automatically replaces the original word in the text.

The Full Thesaurus Dialog

For a more comprehensive search, LibreOffice provides a dedicated Thesaurus dialog window: * Keyboard Shortcut: Select or place the cursor on a word and press Ctrl + F7 (or Cmd + F7 on macOS). * Menu Bar: Navigate to Tools > Thesaurus.

The Thesaurus dialog provides a deeper breakdown of language nuances. It displays: * Multiple meanings and parts of speech (such as nouns, verbs, or adjectives). * Comprehensive synonym lists grouped by context. * Related terms and antonyms (when available in the dictionary). * An interactive lookup bar where you can double-click listed synonyms to traverse deeper into related vocabulary before selecting the “OK” button to replace the text.

Language-Specific Integration

LibreOffice automatically applies the thesaurus matching the language assigned to the selected text. When standard language packs (such as English, French, Spanish, or German) are installed with the suite, the corresponding thesaurus modules are enabled by default, ensuring accurate, localized synonym suggestions without requiring extra configuration.
