LibreOffice Impress Slide Transition Settings
LibreOffice Impress provides robust controls for customizing slide transitions, allowing you to fine-tune both the movement direction and pacing of your presentation effects. By adjusting transition speed, duration, and directional properties in the Sidebar, you can create smooth, professional visual changes between slides.
Accessing Transition Controls
To modify transition parameters, open the Slide Transition deck in the right-hand Sidebar (or select Slide > Slide Transition from the top menu). Once a transition effect is chosen from the list, its specific speed and directional options become configurable in the panel below.
Modifying Transition Speed and Timing
In LibreOffice Impress, the speed of a transition is primarily controlled through the Duration setting:
- Duration Field: Enter a specific time value in
seconds (e.g.,
0.50 secfor a fast snap,2.00 secfor a slow fade). This replaces legacy “Slow/Medium/Fast” presets with precise numerical control. - Automatic vs. On Click: Under the Advance Slide section, you can set transitions to trigger manually on a mouse click or automatically after a specified number of seconds.
Modifying Directional and Variant Parameters
The available directional parameters change dynamically depending on the selected transition category:
- Linear Direction (Pan, Push, Slide, Wipe):
- Compass Directions: Set movement to From Left, From Right, From Top, or From Bottom.
- Diagonal Options: Certain effects allow movement From Top-Left, From Top-Right, From Bottom-Left, or From Bottom-Right.
- Orientation (Bars, Blinds, Checkerboard, Comb):
- Axis Settings: Choose between Horizontal and Vertical orientations for splitting or revealing lines.
- Radial and Circular Directions (Wheel, Circle,
Iris):
- Rotation Direction: Choose Clockwise or Counterclockwise sweeping motions.
- Spoke Counts: For the Wheel effect, set the number of spokes (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, or 8 spokes).
- Shape Expansion (Box, Wedge, Shape):
- Motion Flow: Set whether the geometric shape expands Out from the center or contracts In toward the center.
Applying Changes
After configuring your desired speed and directional parameters, you can test the effect by clicking Play. Use the Apply Transition to All Slides button if you want consistent timing and direction across the entire presentation, or leave it slide-specific for varied effects.
