LibreOffice Base Record Navigation Controls

This article provides an overview of the navigation bar controls in LibreOffice Base used to browse, skip, and manage records within database tables and forms. Understanding these controls allows users to efficiently traverse datasets, jump to specific entries, and insert new data seamlessly.

The Navigation Bar in LibreOffice Base is located at the bottom of the window when viewing tables, queries, or forms. It contains the following primary controls for paging through records:

• First Record (|◀): Moves the cursor directly to the very first record in the active table, query, or form.
• Previous Record (◀): Moves the selection back by one record relative to the current position.
• Record Number Box: Displays the current active record number. Users can click inside this text box, type a specific record number, and press Enter to jump directly to that record.
• Next Record (▶): Advances the selection forward by one record.
• Last Record (▶|): Jumps immediately to the final record in the dataset.
• New Record (▶*): Navigates to a blank entry line at the end of the dataset, allowing users to enter new data.

Next to the Record Number Box, LibreOffice Base displays the total number of records (e.g., “of 250”), helping users track their position within the database.
