How to Convert Text to Table in LibreOffice Writer
Converting raw, delimited text into a structured table is a fast and efficient way to organize data in LibreOffice Writer without manually retyping information. Whether your data uses commas, tabs, semicolons, or custom symbols as separators, LibreOffice Writer includes a built-in conversion utility that parses the text and generates a fully customizable table in just a few steps.
Step 1: Prepare the Text
Ensure your raw data is formatted consistently. Each line in your document represents a table row, and each item within that line represents a column, separated by a specific delimiter.
Common delimiter examples: * Tabs:
Product [Tab] Price [Tab] Quantity * Commas
(CSV): Product, Price, Quantity *
Semicolons: Product; Price; Quantity *
Custom characters (e.g., pipes):
Product | Price | Quantity
Make sure each row ends with a standard paragraph break (press
Enter at the end of each line).
Step 2: Select the Text
Click and drag your mouse to highlight all the lines of text you want to convert into a table.
Step 3: Open the Convert Menu
