Envelope Printing Orientations in LibreOffice Writer

LibreOffice Writer offers dedicated printer configuration settings to ensure envelopes feed and print correctly according to your printer’s specifications. Accessed through the Envelope creation tool, these orientation options allow users to align the envelope horizontally or vertically, adjust the feed position across the tray, and select the direction the envelope faces when entering the paper path.

Accessing Envelope Orientation Settings

To configure envelope printing orientations: 1. Open LibreOffice Writer and go to Insert > Envelope. 2. Select the Printer tab in the Envelope dialog box.

Envelope Feed Orientations

Under the Printer tab, LibreOffice Writer provides six primary feed orientation configurations across two main modes:

• Horizontal Feed (Landscape):
  • Horizontal Left: Feeds the envelope horizontally aligned to the left edge of the printer tray.
  • Horizontal Center: Feeds the envelope horizontally centered in the paper tray.
  • Horizontal Right: Feeds the envelope horizontally aligned to the right edge of the paper tray.
• Vertical Feed (Portrait):
  • Vertical Left: Feeds the envelope vertically (short edge first) along the left edge of the tray.
  • Vertical Center: Feeds the envelope vertically centered in the paper tray.
  • Vertical Right: Feeds the envelope vertically along the right edge of the tray.

Feed Direction Settings

In addition to horizontal and vertical tray alignments, LibreOffice Writer lets you determine the feed direction based on your printer’s tray mechanism:

• Print from Top: The envelope feeds with the top edge entering the printer first.
• Print from Bottom: The envelope feeds with the bottom edge entering the printer first.
• Face Up / Face Down: Depending on whether your printer prints on the top or underside of the paper, you can configure the orientation so the text aligns properly on the front of the envelope.

Shift and Offset Adjustments

If the text does not align perfectly after selecting an orientation, the Printer tab also provides Current printer setup fields. You can specify precise Right and Down shift measurements (in inches or millimeters) to offset the print area and accommodate specific hardware margins.
