Show On-Screen Audio Levels in Kdenlive

This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to set up the “Audio Level” effect in Kdenlive. You will learn how to locate this effect, apply it to your timeline, and customize its settings to dynamically visualize your project’s peak audio levels directly on the video screen.

Step 1: Add Your Media to the Timeline

First, import your video and audio files into Kdenlive’s Project Bin. Drag your video clip onto a video track and your audio clip onto an audio track in the timeline.

Step 2: Locate the Audio Level Effect

Navigate to the Effects panel (if it is not visible, enable it by going to View in the top menu and checking Effects). In the search bar of the Effects panel, type Audio Level.

Step 3: Apply the Effect

Drag the Audio Level effect from the list and drop it directly onto the audio clip or the video clip on your timeline. Applying it to the audio clip will analyze that specific sound file, while applying it to a track or master track will visualize the combined output.
