Search Kdenlive Project Bin Using Metadata Tags

Managing a large volume of media assets in Kdenlive can quickly become overwhelming without proper organization. This guide explains how to efficiently search and filter your clips using metadata tags within the Kdenlive Project Bin. By assigning tags and utilizing the built-in search tools, you can locate specific video, audio, or image files instantly, significantly speeding up your editing workflow.

Step 1: Assigning Tags and Metadata to Clips

Before you can search for clips using metadata, you must first assign tags or descriptions to your media files within the Project Bin.

  1. Open Kdenlive and ensure your Project Bin panel is visible.
  2. Right-click on the clip you want to tag and select Clip Properties.
  3. In the properties window, navigate to the Metadata or General tab. Here, you can enter custom information, such as descriptions, keywords, or camera details.
  4. Alternatively, Kdenlive offers a quick tagging system. Right-click a clip, hover over Add Tag, and select an existing tag color or create a new custom tag (e.g., “B-Roll”, “Interview”, “Audio”).

Step 2: Searching by Metadata in the Project Bin

Once your clips are tagged, you can use the search functionality to filter them.

  1. Locate the Search Bar at the top of the Project Bin panel.

  1. Click on the Filter icon (funnel shape) next to the search bar in the Project Bin.
  2. Select the specific tag category you wish to view.
  3. The Project Bin will instantly isolate and display only the clips marked with that specific tag, allowing for clean, categorized access to your media.
