Link Multiple Audio Clips to One Video in Kdenlive

This article provides a straightforward guide on how to link and sync multiple separate audio clips to a single video track in Kdenlive. By using Kdenlive’s grouping features, you can lock multiple audio sources—such as external mic recordings, sound effects, or music—to your video clip so they move and cut together during editing.

Step 1: Align Your Clips on the Timeline

Before linking your clips, you must position them exactly where they need to be in relation to the video. 1. Drag your video clip onto a video track. 2. Drag your separate audio clips onto different audio tracks below the video. 3. Align the audio clips with the video. You can do this visually by matching the audio waveforms, or automatically by right-clicking the clips and using Kdenlive’s Align Audio feature if they share a reference audio track.

Step 2: Select All Clips

To link the clips, you must select them simultaneously: 1. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard. 2. Click on the video clip and each of the audio clips you want to link. 3. Alternatively, click and drag a selection box over all the clips in the timeline.

Step 3: Group the Clips Together

Grouping binds the selected clips so Kdenlive treats them as a single unit. 1. Right-click on any of the highlighted clips. 2. Select Group Clips from the context menu. 3. Alternatively, press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + G (or Cmd + G on Mac).

Once grouped, clicking on any of the linked clips will automatically select all of them. Moving, trimming, or cutting one clip will apply the same action to the others, keeping your audio and video perfectly synchronized.

If you need to adjust an individual audio clip after grouping, you have two options: * Temporarily disable grouping: Click the Ignore Grouping icon on the timeline toolbar (or press Ctrl + Shift + G). This allows you to move individual clips without breaking the group permanently. Click it again to re-enable the link. * Permanently unlink: Select the grouped clips, right-click, and choose Ungroup Clips (shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + G).
