Cameras often capture colors incorrectly because they do not adjust to different light sources (such as sunlight, fluorescent bulbs, or tungsten lights) the way human eyes do. This results in an unnatural color cast, making the footage look too orange (warm) or too blue (cool).

By applying the White Balance effect, you tell Kdenlive what “true white” or neutral gray should look like in your video. Once the software establishes this reference point, it automatically shifts all other colors in the image to correct the overall color balance.

The Color Temperature Slider

The color temperature slider is the main control within Kdenlive’s White Balance effect. It allows you to manually adjust the warmth or coolness of your footage to compensate for the lighting conditions under which it was shot.

How to Use the Tool in Kdenlive

To use the White Balance tool effectively in Kdenlive:
