Kdenlive Ripple Edit Keyboard Shortcuts
This article provides a quick guide on how to toggle and use the Ripple Edit mode in Kdenlive using keyboard shortcuts. You will learn the specific keys to activate the Ripple tool, switch back to the normal selection tool, and perform ripple deletes to speed up your video editing workflow.
How to Toggle the Ripple Tool
In Kdenlive, the Ripple tool allows you to trim or move clips while automatically shifting all subsequent clips on the timeline to prevent gaps.
- To turn Ripple Edit ON: Press the
Rkey on your keyboard. This changes your mouse cursor to the Ripple tool, allowing you to drag the edges of a clip and have the rest of the timeline adjust accordingly. - To turn Ripple Edit OFF: Press the
Skey on your keyboard. This switches your cursor back to the standard Selection Tool, disabling the ripple behavior.
How to Perform a Ripple Delete
If you want to delete a clip or a selected gap and have all the following clips automatically shift backward to fill the space, you can use the Ripple Delete shortcut:
- Select the clip or the empty space on the timeline.
- Press
Shift + Delete(orShift + Backspace).
Using these quick shortcuts allows you to seamlessly toggle between standard editing and ripple editing without needing to click through the toolbar menus.
