Kdenlive Play Zone Shortcut and Purpose

In Kdenlive, the “Play Zone” feature allows editors to play back a specific, isolated segment of the timeline rather than playing the entire project from the playhead’s current position. This is particularly useful for focused editing, such as fine-tuning transitions, checking audio synchronization, or reviewing a complex visual effect sequence within a tight window.

The “Play Zone” relies on the timeline’s “In” and “Out” points. Editors define the start of the zone by pressing the I key and the end of the zone by pressing the O key on their keyboard.

Once this zone is defined, you can control playback using the following default keyboard shortcuts:

• Play Zone (Ctrl + Space): Plays the timeline strictly between the defined In and Out points and then stops.
• Loop Zone (Ctrl + Shift + Space): Plays the defined zone repeatedly in a continuous loop, which is ideal for closely analyzing repetitive motion or audio cues.
