Kdenlive Corners Effect: Four-Point Perspective Warp Guide
This guide provides a straightforward tutorial on how to use the “Corners” effect in Kdenlive to perform a four-point perspective warp. By following these steps, you will learn how to map any video or image onto a skewed surface—such as a television screen, a billboard, or a wall—by independently manipulating the four corners of your clip.
Step 1: Set Up Your Timeline
To begin, you need at least two video tracks in your timeline: 1. Place the background footage (the scene containing the surface you want to project onto) on the lower track (e.g., V1). 2. Place the foreground clip (the image or video you want to warp) on the track directly above it (e.g., V2).
Step 2: Apply the Corners Effect
- Navigate to the Effects tab (usually located in the bottom-left or bottom-right pane of the Kdenlive interface).
- In the search bar, type Corners.
- Drag and drop the Corners effect directly onto the foreground clip in track V2.
Step 3: Adjust the Corner Points
Once the effect is applied, you will see control parameters in the Effect/Composition Stack panel, and interactive control handles will appear in the Project Monitor.
To perform the warp: 1. Click on the foreground clip in the timeline to ensure it is selected. 2. In the Project Monitor, click and drag the four corner handles (Top-Left, Top-Right, Bottom-Left, and Bottom-Right) to align them with the corners of the target surface in your background video. 3. Step 4: Fine-Tune the Warp
To ensure the warped image looks realistic, you can adjust the following settings in the effect panel: * Interpolation: If your warped image looks pixelated, toggle the interpolation settings to improve image smoothing. * Opacity: Temporarily lower the opacity of the foreground clip if you need to see the background surface edges more clearly while aligning the corners. Remember to set it back to 100% once aligned.
