Import Folder into Kdenlive Project Bin
This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step tutorial on how to import an entire folder of media files into the Kdenlive Project Bin. You will learn the quickest methods to bring multiple video, audio, and image files into your video editing project simultaneously, preserving your file organization and saving valuable editing time.
Method 1: The Drag-and-Drop Method (Fastest)
The easiest way to import a folder into Kdenlive is by dragging it directly from your computer’s file manager.
- Open Kdenlive and ensure the Project Bin panel is visible (usually located in the top-left area of the interface).
- Open your operating system’s file explorer (such as Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, or Linux Dolphin/Files).
- Locate the folder containing your media files.
- Click and hold the folder, drag it over to the Project Bin window in Kdenlive, and release the mouse button.
Kdenlive will automatically import the folder and all compatible media files inside it, keeping the original folder structure intact as a folder icon within your Project Bin.
Method 2: Using the Project Bin Menu
If you prefer using the in-app menus, you can import folders using the import dialog interface.
- Go to the Project Bin panel in Kdenlive.
- Click on the drop-down arrow next to the Add Clip or Folder icon (the filmstrip icon with a plus sign at the top left of the Project Bin).
- Select Add Folder… from the dropdown menu. (Alternatively, you can right-click inside any empty space in the Project Bin and select Add Folder…).
- In the file browser window that appears, navigate to and select the folder you want to import.
- Click the Choose or Open button.
All compatible media files within that directory will be imported into a new folder inside your Kdenlive Project Bin.
