How to View Undo History in Kdenlive

When editing video in Kdenlive, making mistakes or wanting to compare different versions of your edit is a common part of the creative process. Instead of repeatedly pressing the undo shortcut, Kdenlive provides a dedicated Undo History stack that lets you view all your previous actions in a list and revert multiple steps at once. This article explains how to access this panel and use it to navigate your project’s history efficiently.

How to Open the Undo History Panel

By default, the Undo History panel may not be visible in your Kdenlive workspace. You can easily enable it by following these steps:

1. Open your Kdenlive project.
2. In the top menu bar, click on View.
3. Scroll down the dropdown menu and check the box next to Undo History.

Once selected, the Undo History dock will appear on your screen. You can drag and drop this tab to dock it anywhere in your workspace, such as next to your Project Bin or Effect Stack, for easy access.

Reverting Multiple Steps

The Undo History panel displays a chronological list of every action you have taken during your current editing session, with the most recent action at the bottom of the list.

• To go back multiple steps: Simply click on any past action in the list. Kdenlive will instantly revert your project to the exact state it was in immediately after that action was performed.
• To redo actions: If you went too far back, you can jump forward again by clicking on any of the grayed-out actions lower down in the stack.

Please note that the Undo History is session-based. Once you close Kdenlive, the history stack is cleared, and you will not be able to undo actions from previous editing sessions when you reopen the project.
