The Timeline Preview Render feature pre-renders these heavy sections in the background and stores them as temporary files. When you play back these sections, Kdenlive plays the pre-rendered video files instead of rendering the effects on the fly, resulting in perfectly smooth playback.

Follow these steps to pre-render complex parts of your timeline:

1. Define the Render Zone

You do not need to render your entire timeline; instead, define the specific section containing the heavy effects. * Drag the playhead to the beginning of the laggy section and press the I key on your keyboard to set the In Point. * Move the playhead to the end of the section and press the O key to set the Out Point. * You will see a highlighted blue zone (the “Zone”) at the top of your timeline ruler.

2. Start the Preview Render

Once your zone is defined, you can initiate the rendering process: * Go to the top menu and select Timeline > Preview Render > Start Preview Render. * Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift + R. * You can also click the Timeline Preview button located in the timeline toolbar (represented by a small ruler icon with a play symbol).
