How to Use Kdenlive Color Picker on Project Monitor
This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to use the built-in Color Picker tool in Kdenlive to sample precise pixel hues directly from the Project Monitor. You will learn how to select any color from your video preview and immediately apply it to your effects, transitions, titles, or backgrounds.
Step 1: Open an Effect or Tool with a Color Parameter
To use the Color Picker, you must first select an effect or generator that requires a color input. * Drag an effect (such as Chroma Key (Simple), Color Selection, or Lift/Gamma/Gain) onto your timeline clip. * Alternatively, open the Title Clip editor or create a new Color Clip.
Step 2: Locate the Eyedropper Icon
In the Properties or Effect Stack panel (usually located on the top left or middle left of the default interface), find the parameter for the color you want to change. Next to the colored rectangle, you will see a small eyedropper (Color Picker) icon.
Step 3: Activate the Color Picker
Click once on the eyedropper icon. Your mouse cursor will change, indicating that Kdenlive is now in color-sampling mode.
Step 4: Sample the Pixel from the Project Monitor
- Move your cursor over to the Project Monitor window where your video preview is playing.
- Hover over the exact area of the video frame containing the hue you want to copy.
- Left-click on the specific pixel.
The color square in your effect settings will instantly update to match the exact RGB/hex value of the pixel you clicked.
