Understanding the Limiter Filter
The Limiter is an audio effect that prevents signals from exceeding a specific volume threshold, measured in decibels (dB). Unlike a standard audio compressor which gently reduces dynamic range, a limiter acts as a strict ceiling. Any audio peak that attempts to go above this ceiling is instantly pushed down, ensuring the signal never reaches 0 dB—the point where digital distortion and clipping occur.
Step-by-Step Guide to Applying the Limiter in Kdenlive
Step 1: Open the Effects Panel
Launch Kdenlive and open your active project. Ensure your Effects panel is visible. If it is not, go to the top menu and select View > Effects to display it.
Step 2: Locate the Limiter Filter
