How to Save Custom Effect Presets in Kdenlive
Kdenlive is a powerful open-source video editor that allows users to apply and customize a wide range of video and audio effects. If you frequently use a specific configuration of an effect, saving it as a custom preset can streamline your workflow and save you hours of repetitive editing. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step tutorial on how to save, organize, and reuse your customized effects and effect chains in Kdenlive.
Step 1: Apply and Customize Your Effect
- Open your project in Kdenlive and select a clip on your timeline.
- Go to the Effects tab, find the effect you want to use, and drag it onto your clip.
- In the Effect/Composition Stack panel (usually located on the top-right or top-left of the interface), adjust the sliders, keyframes, and settings of the effect until you achieve your desired look or sound.
Step 2: Save the Customized Effect
- Look at the header bar of the specific effect you just customized within the Effect/Composition Stack.
- Click the Save effect icon, which is represented by a small floppy disk icon located on the right side of the effect’s title bar.
- A dialog box will appear prompting you to name your preset. Enter a descriptive name that will help you identify the settings later.
- Click OK to save the preset.
Step 3: How to Save Multiple Effects as a Group (Effect Stack)
If you have applied multiple customized effects to a single clip and want to save the entire chain as a single preset, follow these steps: 1. Ensure all the effects in your stack are customized to your liking. 2. Click the Save Effect Stack icon (a floppy disk icon) located at the very top of the Effect/Composition Stack panel, rather than the icon on an individual effect. 3. Choose a name for your custom effect group and click OK.
Step 4: Apply Your Saved Preset to New Clips
- Navigate to the Effects tab.
- Expand the Custom category (or search for the name you gave your preset in the search bar).
- Drag and drop your saved preset or effect stack onto any clip in your timeline. All of your customized parameters, including keyframes, will be applied instantly.
