How to Remove Unused Clips in Kdenlive

Before archiving your Kdenlive video projects, it is essential to clean up your workspace to save storage space and keep your files organized. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to identify and purge unused clips from your Project Bin, ensuring your archived project contains only the media actually used in your final timeline.

Step 1: Open Your Kdenlive Project

Launch Kdenlive and open the project you wish to clean up and archive. Make sure your timeline is in its final state, as any clips not currently placed on the timeline will be targeted for removal.

Step 2: Use the “Remove Unused Clips” Function

Kdenlive features a built-in tool that automatically detects which assets in your Project Bin are not being used in any timeline tracks.

  1. Go to the top menu bar and click on Project.
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Remove Unused Clips.
  3. Kdenlive will instantly scan your timeline and delete all unused video, audio, and image assets from your Project Bin.

Note: This process only removes the clips from your Kdenlive project interface. It does not delete the original media files from your computer’s hard drive.

Step 3: Verify the Project Bin
