How to Mute Audio Sections with Keyframes in Kdenlive

Step 1: Add the Volume Effect to Your Clip

To mute specific sections of a clip using keyframes, you must use the keyframable volume effect. 1. Open your Kdenlive project and locate your audio or video clip on the timeline. 2. Go to the Effects tab (usually located in the bottom-left or top-left panel). 3. Search for Volume in the search bar. 4. Drag and drop the Volume (keyframable) effect directly onto your audio track or video clip.

Step 2: Access the Effect Stack

Once the effect is applied, you need to open the properties to add keyframes. 1. Click on the clip in your timeline to select it. 2. By default, Kdenlive will smoothly transition (fade) the volume down and up. If you want an instant cut to silence rather than a fade: 1. Right-click on the second and third keyframes in the effect stack timeline. 2. Change the keyframe type/interpolation from Linear to Discrete. This will make the volume drop to mute and return to normal instantly.
