How to Create Water Ripple Effects in Kdenlive

Creating a realistic water droplet or ripple animation in your videos is easy using Kdenlive, the free and open-source video editor. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to locate, apply, and configure the “Ripple” video effect in Kdenlive to simulate realistic, concentric water drop waves over your footage.

Step 1: Add Your Footage to the Timeline

Before applying any effects, you need to import your video clip or image into Kdenlive and place it onto the timeline. 1. Open Kdenlive and import your media into the Project Bin. 2. Drag and drop the clip onto a video track in the Timeline (usually V1 or V2).

Step 2: Locate and Apply the Ripple Effect

Kdenlive features a dedicated effect to distort video in wave patterns. 1. Navigate to the Effects tab (usually located in the bottom-left or top-left panel near the Project Bin).
