How to Create a Title Clip in Kdenlive
Creating text overlays and titles is an essential part of video editing, allowing you to add context, intros, and credits to your projects. This guide provides a direct, step-by-step walkthrough on how to create a new title clip in Kdenlive, customize its appearance, and successfully add it to your video timeline.
Step 1: Open the Title Editor
To begin, you need to open Kdenlive’s built-in Title Editor. Right-click on an empty space inside the Project Bin panel and select Add Title Clip from the context menu. Alternatively, you can go to the top menu bar and select Project > Add Title Clip.
Step 2: Add and Format Your Text
Once the Title Editor window opens, follow these steps to design your title: * Add Text: Click on the T (Add Text) button in the toolbar, then click anywhere on the central canvas area and type your desired text. * Adjust Font and Size: Use the properties panel on the right side of the window to change the font style, size, weight, and alignment. * Customize Colors: Modify the text color, add a solid or gradient background, or enable typewriter effects. * Add Shadow or Outline: Check the boxes for Shadow or Outline in the properties panel to make your text stand out against your video footage.
Step 3: Save the Title Clip
After customizing your text, click the Create Title button located in the bottom-right corner of the window. The Title Editor will close, and your new title clip will appear as a new asset in your Project Bin.
Step 4: Insert the Title into the Timeline
To use the title in your video, click and drag the title clip from the Project Bin and drop it onto your timeline. To overlay the text on top of existing video footage, place the title clip on a video track directly above your main video track. You can then drag the edges of the clip on the timeline to adjust how long the title remains on screen.
