How to Auto Shutdown PC After Kdenlive Render

Rendering high-resolution videos in Kdenlive can take a significant amount of time, often prompting editors to leave their computers running overnight. This guide explains how to configure Kdenlive’s built-in Render Queue to automatically shut down your Windows or Linux computer immediately after your video export jobs are complete.

Step 1: Add Your Project to the Render Queue

Instead of rendering your project directly, you must send it to Kdenlive’s Job Queue. 1. Open your project in Kdenlive. 2. Press Ctrl + Enter (or go to Project > Render in the top menu) to open the Render window. 3. Configure your desired export settings (format, resolution, and output file destination). 4. Click the Generate Script button at the bottom of the window instead of “Render to File”. This action adds the job to the queue.

Step 2: Access the Render Queue Manager

If the Render Queue window does not open automatically, you can open it manually: 1. In the top menu of Kdenlive, go to Project. 2. Select Render Queue (or Queue Manager depending on your Kdenlive version) to open the dedicated queue window.

Step 3: Enable the Auto-Shutdown Feature

  1. In the Render Queue window, you will see a list of your queued rendering jobs.
  2. Look at the bottom of this window for a checkbox labeled Shutdown computer after rendering is complete (or Shutdown on finish).
  3. Check this box.
  4. Click Start Queue to begin the rendering process.

Operating System Requirements

Once the queue is active and the shutdown option is checked, you can safely leave your computer unattended. Kdenlive will process all queued videos sequentially and power down the PC as soon as the final export is complete.
