How to Align Text with the Grid in Kdenlive Titler
Aligning text layers precisely in Kdenlive is essential for creating professional-looking video titles and lower thirds. This guide provides a quick, step-by-step walkthrough on how to enable, configure, and use the integrated grid and snapping features in the Kdenlive Titler to ensure your text layers are perfectly positioned.
To begin, open the Titler tool by right-clicking in the Project Bin area and selecting Add Title Clip from the context menu. This will open the Title Clip editor interface where you can create and modify your text layers.
Once the Titler window is open, locate the grid settings to make the alignment guide visible. On the toolbar at the bottom of the Titler window, check the box next to Show Grid. This overlays a grid on your title canvas, giving you a visual reference point for positioning your elements.
To customize the spacing of your grid lines, adjust the horizontal and vertical pixel spacing values in the Grid configuration box, which is located in the toolbar options. Setting these values allows you to control the density of the grid lines based on your design requirements.
For precise alignment, enable the snapping feature. Check the box next to Snap to Grid (or click the magnet grid icon, depending on your Kdenlive version). With this option active, when you click and drag your text layer close to a grid line, the layer will automatically snap directly to the nearest grid intersection.
Additionally, you can use the coordinate tools on the right-hand panel of the Titler for pixel-perfect placement. Enter specific X and Y coordinate values to manually position your text along the grid lines, or use the quick alignment buttons to snap the selected text layer to the horizontal or vertical center of the screen.
