How to Adjust Track Opacity in Kdenlive
This article provides a straightforward, step-by-step guide on how to adjust the opacity of an entire video track layer in Kdenlive using track header controls. By applying effects directly to the track header, you can quickly control the transparency of all clips on a specific track simultaneously without needing to edit each clip individually.
Step 1: Select the Track Header
To apply changes to an entire layer, you must target the track header rather than individual clips on the timeline. Locate the track header on the far-left side of your timeline (labeled V1, V2, V3, etc.) for the video track you want to adjust. Left-click on the track header zone to select it.
Step 2: Open the Effects Panel
If it is not already visible, open the Effects tab. You can find this in your default layout or enable it by going to the top menu and selecting View > Effects.
Step 3: Find and Apply the Opacity Effect
- In the search bar of the Effects panel, type Opacity.
- Drag the Opacity effect from the list.
- Drop the effect directly onto the Track Header of the video track you want to adjust.
Note: You will know the effect has been applied to the track when a small red or yellow indicator/icon appears on the track header itself.
Step 4: Adjust the Opacity Level
- Click on the track header again to ensure it is selected.
- Look at the Properties or Effect/Composition Stack panel (usually located in the top-left or top-right area of the interface).
- You will see the Opacity effect listed there. Use the slider or enter a percentage value to adjust the overall transparency of the track layer. Lowering the percentage makes the entire track more transparent, allowing tracks beneath it to show through.
