Download Free Stock Video and Audio in Kdenlive
Kdenlive offers a powerful built-in tool called the “Online Resources” panel, allowing editors to find and import free stock footage, audio, and graphics without leaving the video editor. This guide explains how to enable the panel, search creative commons libraries like Pixabay and Freesound, and download assets directly into your project bin for immediate use.
How to Enable the Online Resources Panel
To start searching for stock media, you first need to make sure the Online Resources panel is visible in your workspace.
- Open Kdenlive.
- In the top menu bar, click on View.
- Look for Online Resources in the dropdown menu and click it to ensure it is checked.
- The panel will appear in your interface, typically docked alongside your Project Bin or Effect Stack.
Searching for Stock Video and Audio
The Online Resources panel integrates directly with several popular open-license repositories, including Pixabay for video and images, and Freesound or Archive.org for audio.
- Locate the Online Resources tab in your workspace.
- Use the dropdown menus at the top of the panel to select your preferred provider (e.g., Pixabay for video, Freesound for audio effects).
- Type your search keywords into the search bar.
- Press Enter or click the search icon to load the results.
Previewing and Importing Media
Once the search results populate, you can easily preview the files and add them to your active project.
- Click on any search result thumbnail to view its details, including the license type, resolution, and author.
- For audio files, you can listen to a preview directly within the panel.
- Click the Import or Download button.
- Kdenlive will download the file in the background and automatically place it inside your Project Bin.
- Drag and drop the downloaded asset from your Project Bin onto your timeline to begin editing.
