Create and Export Kdenlive Keyboard Shortcuts

Streamlining your video editing workflow in Kdenlive often requires customizing your keyboard shortcuts to match your personal preferences. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to create a custom keyboard shortcut profile within Kdenlive and successfully export it so you can back up your settings or use them on another computer.

How to Create a Custom Keyboard Shortcut Profile

To customize your keyboard shortcuts in Kdenlive, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shortcut Menu: Launch Kdenlive and navigate to the top menu bar. Click on Settings and select Configure Keyboard Shortcuts… from the dropdown menu.
  2. Locate the Command: Use the search bar at the top of the dialog box to find the specific tool or action you want to modify.
  3. Assign a New Shortcut: Click on the action you wish to change. Select the Custom radio button, click on the shortcut input button, and press the key combination you want to assign on your keyboard.
  4. Resolve Conflicts: If the key combination is already in use, Kdenlive will prompt you to reassign it or choose a different combination. Click OK to confirm your changes.

How to Export Your Shortcut Profile

Once you have configured your custom shortcuts, you should export the profile to save it as a backup or transfer it to another system.

  1. Access Scheme Management: While still in the Configure Keyboard Shortcuts window, click on the Manage Schemes button located at the bottom of the dialog box.
  2. Export the Scheme: Select Export Scheme… from the pop-up menu.
  3. Save the File: A file browser window will open. Choose a destination folder on your computer, name your shortcut file, and click Save. The profile will be saved as a standard configuration file.

To import this profile later or on another machine, return to the Manage Schemes menu in Kdenlive, select Import Scheme…, and locate your saved file.
