Change Kdenlive Proxy Clip Save Location

Changing the Global Default Save Location

To change the default proxy clip folder for all future Kdenlive projects, follow these steps:

  1. Open Kdenlive.
  2. In the top menu, go to Settings and select Configure Kdenlive (on macOS, go to Kdenlive > Preferences).
  3. In the configuration window, click on the Environment tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  4. Select the Default Folders sub-tab.
  5. Locate the Cache directory or Proxy clips field.
  6. Click the folder icon next to the path, navigate to your preferred directory (such as a fast external SSD), and click Open or Choose.
  7. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Changing the Save Location for a Specific Project

If you only want to change the proxy clip storage location for your current active project, use the project settings menu:

  1. Open your project in Kdenlive.
  2. In the top menu, click on Project and select Project Settings.
  3. Click on the Cache data tab.
