Bulk Edit Kdenlive Subtitle Font and Alignment

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to change the font style, size, color, and alignment of multiple subtitle lines simultaneously in Kdenlive. Instead of editing each subtitle block individually, you will learn how to use Kdenlive’s global subtitle styling tool to apply consistent formatting across your entire video project in just a few clicks.

Step 1: Open the Subtitle Styling Panel

To change the style of all subtitles at once, you must access Kdenlive’s global subtitle style settings: 1. Ensure your subtitle track is visible at the very top of your timeline. If it is hidden, press Shift + S to toggle the subtitle track. 2. Double-click on any existing subtitle block in the timeline. This action automatically opens the Subtitles edit panel (usually located in the top-right or top-left section of your interface). 3. In the Subtitles panel, click on the Style tab (represented by a “T” icon or labeled “Style” depending on your Kdenlive version).

Step 2: Modify the Font Style

Once you are in the Subtitle Style tab, any changes you make will be applied to all subtitles on the track: 1. Font Family: Click the font dropdown menu and select your desired typeface. 2. Font Size: Adjust the pixel size using the numerical input or slider to make the text highly readable. 3. Color and Outline: Choose your text color. Center alignment is standard for most video formats. 3. Use the vertical and horizontal margin controls (often represented by X and Y offset values) to adjust the position of the subtitles on the screen. Increasing the bottom margin, for example, will raise all subtitles higher above the bottom edge of the video.

Step 4: Save and Apply
