Apply Audio Dissolve Transition in Kdenlive

In modern versions of Kdenlive, the easiest way to create an audio dissolve between two clips on the same track is by using the automatic “Mix” feature.

  1. Position the Clips: Place two audio clips back-to-back on the same audio track.
  2. Overlap the Clips: Drag the second clip slightly over the first clip to create an overlapping area.
  3. Apply the Mix:
    • Hover your mouse over the top-center overlap area.
    • A small icon will appear. Click this icon, or press the shortcut Shift + Mix (often bound to the Mix action in Kdenlive).
    • Kdenlive will automatically create a crossfade (audio dissolve) transition in the overlapping region.
  4. Adjust Duration: Drag the edges of the transition box to make the dissolve longer or shorter.

If your clips are touching but not overlapping, you can manually create a dissolve effect using the fade handles.

  1. Overlap the Tracks: Place Clip A on Track Audio 1 and Clip B on Track Audio 2, overlapping the end of Clip A with the start of Clip B.
  2. Add Transition: Right-click the overlapping region of the upper clip in the timeline.
