Add Gradient Fill to Text in Kdenlive

This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step process for applying a gradient fill to text within Kdenlive’s built-in Title Clip editor. You will learn how to access the Titler tool, create your text, and configure the color options to replace solid colors with vibrant gradients to enhance your video projects.

Step 1: Create a New Title Clip

To begin, you need to open the Kdenlive Titler: 1. Right-click inside the Project Bin area. 2. Select Add Title Clip from the context menu (or go to Project > Add Title Clip in the top menu).

Step 2: Add and Select Your Text

Once the Title Clip window opens: 1. Click the Type Tool (the icon with the letter “T”) in the toolbar. 2. Click anywhere on the preview canvas and type your text. 3. Use the selection tool (the arrow icon) to click on and highlight the text box you just created.

Step 3: Change Fill Type to Gradient

With your text box selected, look at the properties panel on the right side of the window: 1. Locate the Color option, which defaults to “Solid color”. 2. Click the dropdown menu next to it and select Gradient.

Step 4: Customize the Gradient Colors

After selecting Gradient, a gradient bar configuration tool will appear: 1. Click on the color stop markers on either end of the gradient bar to choose your start and end colors. 2. Add additional color stops by clicking anywhere along the bar if you want a multi-color gradient. 3. Adjust the direction of the gradient by changing the Start and End X/Y coordinate values. This allows you to rotate the gradient horizontally, vertically, or diagonally across your text.

Step 5: Save and Add to Timeline

1. Click Create Clip (or Update Clip if you are editing an existing one) at the bottom right of the window.
2. Drag the completed title clip from your Project Bin onto your video timeline.
