How to Use GIMP Cage Transform Tool?

The Cage Transform tool in GIMP is a powerful feature that allows you to warp, stretch, and deform specific areas of an image by creating a custom anchor-point cage around them. Unlike global transformation tools, it gives you surgical control over a selected region while keeping the rest of the image relatively unaffected. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to locate the tool, place your deformation points, and successfully warp targeted sections of your graphics.

Step 1: Select the Cage Transform Tool

First, open your image in GIMP. You can activate the Cage Transform tool in one of two ways:

Step 2: Create Your Cage

Once the tool is active, your cursor will change to a crosshair with a small cage icon.

Step 3: Deform the Targeted Area

After closing the cage, GIMP switches from “Create or adjust the cage” mode to “Deform the cage to deform the image” mode in the tool options.

Step 4: Apply the Transformation

Once you are satisfied with the distortions and the specific area looks exactly how you want it, you need to finalize the changes. Press the Enter key on your keyboard to commit the transformation. GIMP will render the final pixels, completing the warp effect.
