Using Collections in the Firefox for Android Browser
This article explores the Collections feature in the Firefox web browser for Android, detailing how it allows users to effortlessly group, organize, and revisit related web pages. You will learn how to create and manage Collections, how to restore your browsing sessions, and why this feature offers a practical alternative to traditional bookmarks and cluttered open tabs.
Grouping Related Pages
Collections act as temporary folders for tasks like shopping comparisons, travel planning, or research. Instead of leaving dozens of tabs open, you can bundle related pages together to clear up your active workspace.
There are two ways to group pages into a Collection:
- From an active webpage: Tap the three-dot menu icon in the address bar and select Save to collection. If you already have a Collection started, you can add the page to an existing group, or you can type a name to create a new one.
- From the tab tray: Open your active tabs view, tap the three-dot menu in the corner, and select Save to collection. This allows you to select multiple open tabs at once and group them into a single Collection simultaneously.
Revisiting Your Saved Pages
Firefox places your Collections directly on the browser’s home screen, making it much faster to revisit pages than digging through a buried bookmark hierarchy. Every time you open the app or start a new tab, your grouped pages are immediately visible.
To revisit your pages, scroll down to the Collections section on the Firefox home screen:
- Open a single page: Tap the name of the Collection to expand it, then tap the specific link you want to revisit.
- Restore an entire session: Tap the Collection to expand it, tap the three-dot menu icon within that Collection, and select Open all. Firefox will immediately load all the grouped pages as active tabs, allowing you to pick up your research or shopping right where you left off.
Managing and Sharing Collections
Keeping your Collections organized requires minimal effort. Because they are designed for ongoing tasks rather than permanent storage, Firefox makes it easy to modify them on the fly.
- Removing single pages: Expand the Collection on your home screen and tap the "X" or trash icon next to any individual webpage you no longer need.
- Renaming or deleting a Collection: Expand the Collection, tap its three-dot menu icon, and choose Rename collection or Delete collection once your project is complete.
- Sharing grouped links: Next to the Collection name, tap the Share icon. This compiles all the URLs inside that Collection into a single text list, allowing you to easily send a batch of related links to a friend, colleague, or another app on your phone.
Why Collections Beat Open Tabs and Bookmarks
Leaving tabs open to remind yourself to read them later slows down your browser and creates visual clutter. Conversely, using traditional bookmarks for temporary projects quickly turns your bookmark folder into an disorganized mess. Collections bridge this gap by offering a dedicated, visual workspace on your home screen, ensuring your related pages stay grouped together and ready to revisit whenever you need them.
