How to Report Extensions in the Firefox Add-ons Manager
This article provides a quick, step-by-step guide on how to report broken, malicious, or policy-violating browser extensions directly through the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons Manager. By following these simple instructions, you can alert Mozilla to problematic add-ons and help maintain a safe, functional browsing environment directly from your browser settings.
Step 1: Open the Add-ons Manager
You can access the Firefox Add-ons Manager using any of the following methods:
- Click the Menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner of the browser and select Add-ons and themes.
- Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + A on Windows/Linux, or Command + Shift + A on macOS.
- Type
about:addonsdirectly into the Firefox address bar and press Enter.
Step 2: Locate the Problematic Extension
Once you are in the Add-ons Manager, look at the navigation menu on the left side of the screen and click on Extensions. Scroll through your list of installed extensions (both enabled and disabled) to find the specific one you need to report.
Step 3: Open the Report Menu
Next to the extension's name and toggle switch, click the More Options button (represented by three horizontal dots). From the dropdown menu that appears, click Report.
(Note: If you choose to click Remove instead, Firefox will often display a confirmation prompt that includes a checkbox allowing you to report the extension to Mozilla at the same time you uninstall it).
Step 4: Select the Reason for Reporting
Clicking the report option will open a feedback form for that specific extension. You will be asked to choose the primary issue you are experiencing. The options generally fall into two categories:
- Policy Violations and Abuse: Choose options related to malware, spam, illegal content, hate speech, or unauthorized data collection if the extension is behaving maliciously.
- Broken Functionality: Choose options indicating that the extension does not work, slows down the browser, or breaks specific websites.
Step 5: Provide Details and Submit
After selecting a category, a text box will appear. Enter a clear, concise description of the problem.
- If the extension is broken, mention which websites it affects and what happens when you try to use it.
- If the extension violates Mozilla's policies, describe the suspicious behavior (e.g., unwanted pop-ups, hijacked search engines, or misleading functionality).
Once you have entered the necessary details, click the Submit Report button. Your report will be sent directly to Mozilla’s review team for investigation. You can now safely remove the extension from your browser if you have not done so already.
