Data Categories You Can Toggle in Firefox Sync Settings

This article provides a quick overview of the specific data categories that users can selectively enable or disable within the Sync settings of the Mozilla Firefox web browser. By customizing these synchronization options, users can maintain precise control over which personal browsing information—ranging from bookmarks and passwords to open tabs and browser preferences—is shared across their connected devices.

When configuring Firefox Sync, you are not required to synchronize all of your browser data. You can selectively toggle the following specific categories on or off based on your privacy and workflow preferences:

Bookmarks Toggling this option synchronizes your saved websites, custom bookmark folders, and your Bookmarks Toolbar layout. Any bookmark added, deleted, or moved on one device will automatically update on all other connected devices.

History This category shares your browsing history across devices. When enabled, the websites you visit on one device will appear in the history logs and address bar autocomplete suggestions of your other synced devices.

Open Tabs Enabling Open Tabs allows you to see and access the webpages you currently have open on other devices. This is managed through the Firefox View dashboard or the synced tabs menu, making it easy to pick up where you left off when switching from a desktop to a mobile device.

Logins and Passwords This setting controls the synchronization of your saved usernames and passwords. Turning it on ensures your encrypted credentials are available for autofill across every device where you are signed into your Mozilla account.

Addresses When toggled on, Firefox will sync the physical addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers you have saved for autofilling web forms.

Credit Cards Often listed alongside payment methods, this option synchronizes the credit and debit card information saved in your browser for faster online checkouts. For security, your card security code (CVV) is never synced.

Add-ons This category syncs the extensions and visual themes you have installed in Firefox. When enabled, any add-on you install on one desktop browser will automatically download and activate on your other synced desktop browsers.

Settings Toggling the Settings category synchronizes your custom Firefox configurations. This includes your preferred search engines, homepage setup, content blocking levels, and general browser behavior preferences.
