Select All Objects with Same Material in Blender

This guide provides simple, step-by-step methods to quickly select every object in your Blender scene that shares a specific material. Whether working in a complex scene with hundreds of assets or just cleaning up a project, you can use built-in keyboard shortcuts or menu options to isolate objects by their assigned material in seconds.

The fastest way to select all objects sharing a material is by using the Object Mode grouping shortcut.

  1. Switch to Object Mode (Tab).
  2. Click on any single object that has the material you want to target.
  3. Press Shift + G on your keyboard to bring up the Select Grouped menu.
  4. Select Material from the list.

Blender will instantly highlight every object in the current scene that uses that exact same material.

Method 2: Using the "Select Linked" Shortcut

Alternatively, you can use the linked data shortcut to achieve the same result.

  1. Select an object containing the target material in Object Mode.
  2. Press Shift + L to open the Select Linked menu.
  3. Click on Material.

All objects linked to that material slot will now be added to your current selection.

Method 3: Selecting Specific Faces in Edit Mode

If you want to select only the geometry or faces assigned to a specific material within a single object (rather than whole objects across the scene):

  1. Select the mesh and enter Edit Mode (Tab).
  2. Navigate to the Material Properties tab in the Properties panel on the right (icon looks like a red sphere).
  3. Click on the desired material name in the material list slot.
  4. Click the Select button located directly beneath the material slots list.

This will highlight all polygons on that specific object assigned to the chosen material slot.
