How to Hide the Header of an Editor in Blender

Blender's interface relies on editor headers to display menus, modes, and tool options, but hiding them can create a cleaner, distraction-free workspace. This guide explains how to quickly collapse, hide, and restore the header bar in any Blender editor window using simple mouse shortcuts and menu settings.

Method 1: Use the Right-Click Context Menu

The easiest way to toggle an editor header on or off is through the context menu:

  1. Hover your mouse cursor over an empty area of the header you wish to hide (such as near the menus or empty space on the bar).
  2. Right-click to open the context menu.
  3. Hover over Header.
  4. Click Toggle Header (or uncheck Show Header depending on your Blender version).

The header will immediately disappear, giving more screen space to your viewport or editor.

Method 2: Drag the Header Closed

You can manually collapse a header by dragging its edge:

  1. Move your mouse cursor to the border separating the header from the main workspace area until the cursor turns into a double-headed arrow.
  2. Click and drag the border toward the outer edge of the screen (upward if the header is at the top, or downward if it is at the bottom).
  3. Release the mouse button once the header snaps shut.

How to Show a Hidden Header Again

If you need to restore a hidden header:

  1. Look at the top-right or bottom-right corner of the editor where the header used to be.
  2. You will see a tiny arrow icon (chevron) pointing toward the inside of the editor.
  3. Click the arrow icon to expand and restore the header.

Alternatively, you can right-click the very top or bottom edge of the editor area, select Header, and choose Show Header.

Moving the Header Instead of Hiding It

If you want to keep the header visible without it getting in your way, you can move it to the opposite side of the editor:

  1. Right-click on the header.
  2. Hover over Header.
  3. Select Flip to Bottom (or Flip to Top).
