How to Disable a Collection in Renders in Blender
Disabling a collection from rendering in Blender allows you to keep objects visible in your viewport for reference while excluding them from the final image or animation. You can easily achieve this by enabling the render restriction toggle in the Outliner window or by excluding the collection from the active View Layer. This guide provides the exact steps to quickly disable any collection from your final render.
Method 1: Using the Render Restriction Toggle (Camera Icon)
- Open the Filter Menu: In the Outliner panel (typically located in the top-right corner of the default layout), click the Filter icon (looks like a funnel) in the top-right header.
- Enable "Disable in Renders": Under the Restriction Toggles section, click the Camera icon to make the render toggle visible in your Outliner list.
- Disable the Collection: Find the collection you want to exclude from the render in your Outliner list. Click the Camera icon next to the collection's name. When the icon appears greyed out or dimmed, the collection is disabled for all future renders, even though it remains visible in your 3D Viewport.
Method 2: Exclude Collection from View Layer
- Locate the Collection: Find the target collection in the Outliner.
- Uncheck the Box: Click the checkbox located directly to the left of the collection's name.
Unchecking this box excludes the collection entirely from the active View Layer. This hides it from both the viewport and the render, which also frees up system memory during the rendering process.
