Constrain Force Fields to a Collection in Blender
By default, Blender force fields affect every physics-enabled object across your entire scene. You can easily constrain a force field to affect only specific objects by grouping your force fields into a dedicated Collection and assigning that Collection as an Effector Collection within the target physics simulation settings.
Step 1: Organize Your Force Field into a Collection
- Select your Force Field object in the 3D Viewport or the Outliner.
- Press M to open the Move to Collection menu.
- Choose New Collection, name it something descriptive (such as Wind Force or Active Effectors), and click OK.
Step 2: Set the Effector Collection on the Target Physics Object
Force field influence is controlled at the receiving object's physics settings rather than the force field itself.
- Select the object containing the physics simulation (e.g., Cloth, Soft Body, Particle System, or Fluid).
- Go to the Physics Properties tab in the Properties Editor on the right.
- Scroll down to the Field Weights panel and expand it.
- Locate the Effector Collection field at the top of the Field Weights panel.
- Click the field and select the collection you created in Step 1.
Once selected, only the force fields located inside that designated collection will influence this specific physics simulation. All other force fields in the scene will be ignored.
Handling Particle Systems
If you are constraining force fields for a particle simulation:
- Select the particle emitter object.
- Navigate to the Particle Properties tab.
- Scroll down and expand the Field Weights panel.
- Set the Effector Collection to your dedicated force field collection.
Handling Rigid Body Simulations
For Rigid Body physics:
- Go to the Scene Properties tab.
- Expand the Rigid Body World panel, then expand Field Weights.
- Set the Effector Collection to the collection containing the forces you want to apply to rigid bodies in the scene.
