How to Reverse Audio in Audacity

Reversing an audio track in Audacity is a quick and simple process that allows you to flip sound files so they play backwards from end to beginning. Whether you are creating sound effects, masking explicit lyrics, or experimenting with music production, this guide outlines the exact steps needed to select audio, apply the built-in Reverse effect, and export your finished file.

Step 1: Import Your Audio File

1. Open Audacity.
2. Click File in the top menu bar, select Import, and then click Audio.
3. Locate the audio file on your computer and click Open. Alternatively, drag and drop the audio file directly into the Audacity window.

Step 2: Select the Audio to Reverse

You can reverse an entire track or just a specific section:

• To reverse the entire track: Click anywhere inside the track waveform and press Ctrl + A (Windows) or Cmd + A (Mac). You can also click the Select button located in the track control panel on the left side of the track.
• To reverse a specific section: Use the Selection Tool (keyboard shortcut F1) to click and drag across the portion of the waveform you want to reverse.

Step 3: Apply the Reverse Effect

1. With your audio selected, click on the Effect menu at the top of the screen.
