How Roll-Off Slopes Work

An octave represents a doubling or halving of a frequency (for example, moving from 100 Hz to 200 Hz, or from 4 kHz to 2 kHz). The dB rating dictates how much signal volume is attenuated across that octave distance once the audio crosses the designated cutoff frequency.

A lower number creates a gentle, gradual slope, while a higher number creates a steep, aggressive drop-off.
